For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

The Whanganui District Council is hosting two information sessions for people thinking about standing in the local body elections in October 2016.
The sessions will be held on Thursday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 7, from 7.00pm to 9.30pm at the Council Chamber.
Potential candidates for the Whanganui District Council or Wanganui Rural Community Board will hear from staff about the Council’s Leading Edge vision, the challenges and opportunities of local government and the level of time commitment needed to be an elected representative.
There will also be an opportunity for questions and to chat one-on-one with staff.
