Due to safety concerns, the council is temporarily closing the Mowhanau Lookout Carpark on Sunset Parade from January 30, 2026 after finding new erosion to the cliff wall.

Wakefield Street Bridge closure

Following a recent safety review, Wakefield Street Bridge in Whanganui East has been closed to all through-traffic for a minimum of 18 months. Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained
