Learn to Swim

Make a splash with our Learn to Swim programme! The fun and engaging learn to swim classes are led by friendly instructors whose aim is to teach the valuable life skill of swimming through a positive and fun approach. From first-time paddlers to little ones refining their strokes, we provide a safe and supportive environment for every child to learn and grow.

Learn to swim enrolment (new students)

Enrolment for new Aquatot students is at the end of each term and does not require assessment prior to enrolment. If we have availability in Aquatots classes these can be joined at any point throughout the term. Pre School assessments are required for new students.

Learn to swim enrolment (existing students)

Roll over enrolments will be done in person the week prior to online bookings opening – these are for students who are assessed and are staying in the same class at same time. Payment must be made to confirm held spots. This can be done upfront, or with a weekly Direct Debit set up (more information on DDs under Learn to Swim with EziDebit). *If an external provider pays for Learn to Swim Lessons please email splashcentre@splashcentre.co.nz to confirm this process.

For existing Learn to Swim Students who have been assessed you will be able to enrol online at https://pools.whanganui.govt.nz  Please note enrolments open at the end of the term once assessments have taken place. Enrolments are confirmed by the Learn to Swim team. Any students enrolled into the wrong level will have to re-enrol into the correct level. You will receive a ‘next level slip’ indicating which level to select online or in person.

Over the phone and email enrolments will be held for 48 hours only for online or in person processing.

Enrolments are not confirmed until payment is in place (either Upfront or DD, this can be done at reception or in the online portal) – you risk losing your spot if this is not done and held spaces will have a finite period. Please note that bank transfer is not accepted for payment unless arrangement has been pre-agreed.

Holiday Programmes are upfront payments only.

Learn to Swim with EziDebit

EziDebit is the easy way to pay your Learn to Swim fees. Online payments are processed by EziDebit.  Splash Centre will not appear on your transaction history.

When you choose to pay by direct debit Learn to Swim payments will be automatically deducted by Ezidebit weekly from your nominated bank account or credit card on the Monday of the lesson. All transactions will show up on your regular bank account statement. If your regular session falls on a public holiday you will not be charged that week.

It’s quick, it’s easy, you don’t need to set anything up with your bank and you don’t have to think about it.

When enrolling for Learn to Swim simply select direct debit online or fill in the Ezidebit form in person.

Pricing

Aquatots $11.00per week
Preschool $13.50 per week
After school $13.50 per week
Private 1 on 1 $19.00 per week (15 minutes)

Please note: upfront pricing is based on relevant number of weeks in the term, this may vary depending on the day of the week but is based on the per week pricing above.

General Terms and Conditions

Learn to Swim Students will be issued a Learn to Swim Membership card. These are issued once for the entirety of the time in the Learn to Swim Programme. if lost it is a $5.00 fee to replace the card

On arrival to the facility the card must be scanned at the front counter.

Students are able to take up to one term off without needing to be reassessed – for breaks longer than one term students are considered as new students and will need to be reassessed. This is because a lot can change in this time and we want to ensure our students are swimming at the correct level.

If a child is unable to attend lessons due to a multi-week medical event (eg. broken arm), lessons can be credited (for upfront payment) or direct debits suspended for recovery period. A medical certificate will need to be provided.

Children under 8 must be actively supervised by a caregiver over the age of 17 – active supervision means watching your child at all times, and ready to offer assistance if needed.

New learn to swim students over the age of 3 years must complete an assessment before enrolling into Learn to Swim or Learn to Swim Holiday Programmes – enrolments for new students without this criterion being met will not be accepted. Upfront payments will be refunded within 20 working days on receipt of refund details, payment plans set up with direct debit will automatically be cancelled.

If your child does not meet age requirements for Aquatot classes, they will not be able to attend until they meet that age, however charges are for the term in full, if booked online/prior to the term beginning. We do not accept children under 6 months due to difficulty of regulating body temperature and developing immune systems.

We do not refund for change of mind.

Location

The Splash Centre is located in Springvale Park, 220 London Street, Whanganui.

A little bit of history

The original Splash Centre facility officially opened on 14 March 1989. This facility boasts a competitive 25m pool and at the time a Learn to Swim Pool (now the hydrotherapy pool).

In 2004, to provide customers with the equipment for cardiovascular workout, the ‘Splash Deck’ which is located upstairs in the original facility was added to the wider Splash experience.

On 18 April 2008, the Splash Centre Extension was officially opened! This added a 25m training pool, a learn to swim pool, lazy river, toddlers pool, spas, hydroslides, a sauna and steam room, along with family changing rooms.
