Welcoming Communities
Whanganui is home to people from more than 20 ethnicities, each bringing unique experiences, skills and cultures that help shape and strengthen our community. Welcoming Communities Te Waharoa ki ngā Hapori supports our vision of Whanganui as a place where everyone feels welcomed, connected and able to thrive.
This nationwide programme is led by Immigration New Zealand, in partnership with the Office of Ethnic Communities and the Human Rights Commission. It helps councils and communities across Aotearoa create inclusive environments for newcomers, including migrants, former refugees, international students and people relocating within New Zealand.
Our Welcoming Communities Advisory Group refreshes our Welcoming Plan and continues building an inclusive, connected community.
