Wanganui District Council will be stepping up its patrols of parking on Taupo Quay this weekend and the following weekend.

Infrastructure Manager Mark Hughes said vehicles are being parked on newly grassed garden areas near the Whanganui Riverboat Centre, as well as on the footpath and bus stop between the Riverboat Centre and Victoria Avenue.

“For people’s safety we do need to ensure that footpaths are kept clear for pedestrians and that buses can access the bus stop on that stretch of Taupo Quay which is especially busy on Saturdays,” Mr Hughes said.

“We have seen that people are parking their vehicles on the recently sown grassed garden areas which prevents the grass getting established.

“Our parking team will be in Taupo Quay this Saturday and next Saturday. We want to give people advance warning that we will be issuing $40 infringement notices for any vehicles parked where they shouldn’t be.”
