For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

Nominations open on Friday, May 2, for a by-election to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Wanganui District Council following the resignation of Michael Laws.
Electoral Officer Noeline Moosman said nominations will close at 12 noon on Friday, May 30. Voting documents will be delivered to electors between June 27 and July 2, with voting closing at midday on Saturday, July 19.
Nomination forms and associated information are available from the Electoral Officer at the Council building in Guyton Street.
The Local Electoral Act 2001 requires that a by-election be held to fill the vacancy. The election will be held under the First Past the Post (FPP) electoral system by postal vote.
