Work is progressing well on improving road access. No 3 Line from the urban boundary to Kaimatira Road remains closed but will reopen to the public on Monday, July 20. The bridge in this section will be one lane only.

Road closures:

  • Matahiwi Track (approx. 800m from Whanganui River Road)
  • Ahu Ahu Valley Road (last 3km)
  • No 3 Line from urban boundary to Kaimatira Road (reopening on Monday)
  • Kaiwhaiki Road (last 1km)

4WD access only:

  • Junction Road
  • Kauarapaoa Road
  • Creek Road
  • Kaukatea Valley Road
  • Bruce Road
  • Matahiwi Track (first 800m only; remainder is closed)
  • Whanganui River Road – north from Ranana to the district boundary

2WD (caution needed due to slippery surface):

  • Papaiti Road
  • Longacre Road
  • Waikupa Road
  • Kaikokopu Road (gravel section only)
  • Matarawa Valley Road

All other roads in the district are now open and available to 2WD, cars etc. Truck and trailer contractors who wish to gain access to rural roads should contact the Roading Alliance on 027 444 8346 for an update.

Most roading crews will be taking a break at the weekend and will resume work on Monday. However, they will remain on standby in case forecast rain over the weekend causes issues.

Kowhai Park

Kowhai Park is still off limits to the public. Heavy machinery is working in and around the playground area down to Dublin Street Bridge so it unsafe for the public to use the park. We anticipate that this machinery may be operating for at least another three weeks, depending on the weather.

The skatebowl has been partially emptied but the drain needs to be cleared before further clean-up work can proceed. The heavy machinery was moved to the playground area for part of this week, but will be back in the skatebowl area next week.
