Bayleys host meet-up November 2022 - Masters Games

New Zealand Masters Games media release

Participants and volunteers alike will be well looked after at the Downer New Zealand Masters Games in 2023, thanks to renewed support from Bayleys Whanganui.

Continuing in a partnership formed at the 2021 Games, Bayleys Whanganui are the official host partners for the 2023 Downer New Zealand Masters Games and volunteers will once again be known as the Bayleys’ Hosts.

John Bartley, Managing Director and owner of Bayleys Whanganui, says the partnership reaffirms a commitment to recognising and supporting the work of the hundreds of volunteers who power the event.

“Taking care of those who take care of others is a privilege and we look forward to welcoming the Masters Games volunteers to the Games Village in February.

“Instead of a tent this year we will be creating a dedicated Bayleys Host space which will provide an area for volunteers to relax out of the sun and catch up with fellow hosts throughout the games.”

Games Manager Heather Cox says the team are looking forward to welcoming locals and visitors alike to the Games Village.

“Participants will be able to check-in from Wednesday 1 February, with the Games Village opening fully from Friday 3 February onwards. Our Bayleys’ Hosts will be helping participants to check-in and collect their registration packs, as well as providing invaluable support for our event team and our sport partners throughout the Games with things like medal ceremonies at the various sporting venues.”

Host Coordinator Sarah Craig is excited to be taking on the role of mustering volunteers this year, with a great group of volunteers already on board ready for the event in February.

“We have a fantastic cohort of new and returning volunteer hosts who can’t wait to be part of the vibrant Games atmosphere. Some of our amazing hosts have been involved with the Games since inception, so they know what participants need to feel comfortable during the week and look forward to the Games each time it comes around.”

“While we have a number of volunteer hosts signed up already, we need people to come and help on the bar at the Games Village during the evenings. If you’re energetic, don't mind being on your feet, and enjoy a fast-paced atmosphere then this is a great opportunity to come and experience the social side of the Games for a few hours or more.”

The 2023 Downer New Zealand Masters Games will be held in Whanganui from 3 - 12 February. Those interested in volunteering for bar shifts can contact Sarah at host@nzmg.com.

Early bird registrations are open until 11 December, with a special discount for Whanganui residents by entering the promo code ‘LOCAL’ when registering online at www.nzmg.com. Entry is open to anyone 20 years and older, with 20 sports available to people aged 20-29 years old.
