For the 2023/24 financial year (starting in July 2023) the council is making a one-off rates remission (reduction) of up to $500 available for households facing a rates rise higher than $700.

William Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice" will be performed outside in the beautiful Bason Botanic Gardens.
Arguably Shakespeare’s darkest comedy, The Merchant of Venice explores issues of greed, religious persecution, revenge and sexism.
Tickets are on sale from the Royal Whanganui Opera House and limited tickets may be available at the gardens' front gate.
Picnic hampers can be pre-booked or bring your own food and beverages. Don't forget to pack a chair, sand-seat or blanket to sit on.
