Whanganui’s proud history as a sporting leader is reflected in the outstanding competitors and officials inducted into the Whanganui Sports Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognises sporting achievements by athletes and coaches who have made a significant impact on Whanganui’s sporting heritage. Nominations are now invited for the 2016 inductees into the Hall of Fame.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, nominees must be from the Whanganui District, by birth or adoption, have been retired at least five years from top competition, represented New Zealand at ‘senior’ level and/or contributed positively to, and brought credit to, sport in the District.

The list of people already inducted into the Hall of Fame is available on our Sports Hall of Fame page.

The 2016 inductee(s) will be announced at the Whanganui Sports Awards on Friday, November 18.

Nomination forms are available at the Customer Services Counter, Municipal Office Building, 101 Guyton Street, Whanganui, and on the Sports Hall of Fame page.

Nominations close on Friday, 23 September 2016.
