Love Whanganui? Vote!

Voting papers have been now been sent out for the 2019 local elections and that means voters need to fill out their forms and return them by post or in person to Whanganui District Council by midday, Saturday, 12 October.

In case you’re not in the habit of visiting a post box, Whanganui District Council’s Senior Democracy Advisor Kate Barnes says there is another option – Vote Day, on Saturday, 5 October, 2019.

“We want to encourage people to vote, so we’re taking the ballot box into town and the suburbs on that day.

“The idea is that you bring your envelope to one of our Vote Day stations and simply drop your papers in the box. We’ll be easy to see – just look for the blue flags and the orange box.”

Ballot boxes will be located at stations around Whanganui where voters will be able to place their votes – locations and times are:

10.00am – 12 noon

Rangiora Street Library, Castlecliff

Gonville Café Library, Gonville

Whanganui River Markets, Taupō Quay

Aramoho Shopping Centre, Aramoho

Whanganui East Shopping Centre, Whanganui East

Springvale Garden Centre, Springvale

1.00pm – 3.00pm

Trafalgar Square Shopping Centre, Taupō Quay

There will also be ballot box facilities to accept votes at the Council’s Customer Services area, 101 Guyton Street, from 9.00am to 12 noon on Saturday, 12 October 2019.

Electoral Officer, Noeline Moosman advises, “If you haven't made it to a post box by Monday, 7 October, bring your voting envelope in person to Council Customer Services to ensure it is received in time.”

Voting in this year’s local elections closes at 12 noon on Saturday, 12 October 2019.
