If you are part of an organisation which supports young people and need some extra funding to get a project or initiative underway, check out the Youth Committee’s Youth Grants scheme.

The scheme provides funding for community groups and agencies within the Whanganui District which benefit local youth aged 12 to 24.

The first round of the funding scheme for the 2016/17 year is now open.

Youth Committee Co-Chair Macy Duxfield welcomes applications which align to the Youth Committee’s goals of making sure Whanganui is a place where young people want to be.

“We want to support projects and initiatives which help deliver a vibrant, thriving and empowering community for young people. These could be about promoting good choices about health and wellbeing, or helping young people to develop the skills and attitudes to take part in our community in a positive way.

“We are also looking for applications from organisations which promote relevant information to young people so they can make good decisions and participate in our society at every level.”

In the 2015/16 year the Youth Committee awarded a total of $10,000 to several local groups which supported a variety of youth development initiatives.

Organisations are able to apply for up to $1500. There are four application rounds per financial year. The next round closes on Friday, September 2. For more information, please visit www.whanganui.govt.nz/youthcommitttee.
