Until now, there has been no ability to separate stormwater and wastewater services in Raupo Street between Hinau (east) and Tongariro streets as no stormwater main has been available. This means that the stormwater has been collected and discharged via the wastewater system, putting extra pressure on the wastewater system during rain events.
This has affected not only the immediate area but also a wider area including upstream of Raupo, Puriri, Ruapehu and Kowhai streets area.
Laying the new 110 metres of 825mm stormwater main will improve the levels of services in the area, achieve stormwater/wastewater separation, allow for projected effects of long- term climate change, and will also accommodate current and anticipated growth around this area.
The new stormwater main will connect to a new manhole constructed during earlier work in Raupo Street (stormwater upgrade stage one) and will eventually connect to the future upstream separation work – Raupo Street stormwater upgrade - stage 3, which is expected to be constructed in 2024.

Stage three: Tongariro Street to Kowhai Street (along Puriri Street) – this project is planned to begin in February 2024
As well as allow public separation of wastewater and stormwater in the immediate area, the project will also benefit areas upstream, including Raupo Street, Puriri Stree, Ruapehu Street, and Kowhai Street areas by:
