Wanganui District Council Infrastructure Manager Mark Hughes says while water restrictions are being implemented in some regions, there is currently no need for restrictions in the Wanganui District.

“It has been hot and is very dry but our water supply has been able to keep up with demand so far this summer,” Mr Hughes said.

“At this stage there is no need to introduce water restrictions. However, we do encourage people not to waste water and to ensure any leaks on their property are fixed. If residents are aware of any leaks in the public system, please phone the Council to report them.”

Mayor Annette Main said the Council’s prudent management of the water supply was paying off.

“It is pleasing that our careful spending on infrastructure for water supply has meant we don’t face the same issues as other areas in terms of supply,” Mayor Main said.
