Kowhai Park closed after sewage spill

Wanganui District Council Senior Parks Officer Wendy Bainbridge says Kowhai Park playground is closed until further notice.

Sewage spilled into the playground area after heavy rain so the playground is closed until the sewage can be neutralised. The public toilets are also closed until further notice.

“The playground area is cordoned off and signs will be put up advising the public to keep out of that area,” Ms Bainbridge said.

The effects of the heavy rain have kept Council staff and contractors busy over the last few days dealing with slips, blockages and leaks. The major issue is the slip at Aranui Bluff on Mangamahu Road with that section of road expected to remain closed for some time.
