Information update - discolouration of water supply

Published on 24 January 2019

UPDATE at 12.30pm, Thursday 24 January 2019

We have been advised by the contractor that the supply from Longbeach Dr to Manuka Street within the Castlecliff area is now clear and we are now moving to other areas such as Springvale and Otamatea. We are hoping to have most of the areas completed within a couple of hours.

Please run your cold taps for 10 minutes to flush out the discoloured water. It should then be clear. If it is not clear after ten minutes, please advise Council Infrastructure on 06 349 0001.

A significant number of homes, mostly in the Castlecliff area, have had issues with discolouration of the water since Wednesday, 23 January.

After investigation it appears this has come from an emergency repair completed early yesterday morning. Unfortunately dirty water has entered into the reservoir and then gone out into the reticulation affecting Castlecliff.

Veolia contractors are working on flushing the mains in the affected area and will continue until the system is clean. You do not need to continue running your taps at this stage - it's better to conserve water until the problem is resolved.

The water is still safe and we are chlorinating as normal at the reservoir.

Thank you for your patience.
