The section of Glasgow Street between Bell Street and Keith Street has now reopened to traffic.
The June 2015 flooding severely damaged the stormwater pipe under that section of road, causing a tomo (sink hole). The immediate area was cordoned off for safety reasons and in late January the huge repair job began which required traffic to detour around that section of Glasgow Street.
No quick fix was available. The pipe is five metres under the road and the work required digging down to six metres.
Whanganui District Council thanks the community for its patience while the detours were in place.
