Entries for the Trustpower Energy Direct Whanganui District Community Awards are open for 2014 and groups or organisations working for the benefit of the Wanganui District are encouraged to apply.
The awards are run in 27 regions throughout New Zealand in conjunction with local councils.
The Wanganui District Council is working alongside Trustpower to make sure volunteer organisations are recognised for what they do in our community. More than $5000 in prize money will be awarded.
Entry forms are available from Wanganui District Council offices, or can be downloaded from www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards or requested by calling the Trustpower Community Relations team on 0800 87 11 11.
Anyone can enter a voluntary group or community organisation for the awards, and it only takes a few minutes of your time. With over 90 entries in 2013, Sustainable Whanganui (based at the Whanganui Resource Recovery Centre) was awarded Supreme Winner and represented our region at the Trustpower National Community Awards in Invercargill earlier this year.
The awards cover five categories: Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. Winners receive $500, runners-up receive $250 and the Supreme Winner will take home $1500, a trophy and an all-expenses paid trip to the Trustpower National Community Awards.
Entries close on Friday, 22 August 2014.
