Castlecliff water issues easing, but work continues

The number of properties reporting water issues in Castlecliff and the surrounding area has reduced today, but Whanganui District Council is continuing to ask residents who are still experiencing discoloured water, sediment or reduced pressure to get in touch so crews can follow up.
At its peak, more than 100 properties were affected by discoloured water, sand, sediment and reduced water pressure.
The council has identified the source of the issue, which followed important pipeline upgrades to the drinking water main that feeds Castlecliff. Water teams are continuing to work around the clock, flushing the network through fire hydrants to clear sediment.
Council chief executive Doug Tate says the council appreciates the community’s patience.
“We know this continues to be frustrating for affected households. However, it’s encouraging to see the number of affected properties reduced.
“We take our responsibilities for water safety seriously, and our teams are continuing to work hard to get things back to normal, while monitoring water quality closely. The water remains safe to drink, and we continue to proactively work with Taumata Arowai – the Water Services Authority. We’re also providing information to all residents in the affected suburbs via a letter drop.
“If you’re still experiencing discoloured water, sediment or reduced pressure, it is important to call us on 06 349 0001 as soon as possible so we can follow up. We’d also like to hear from anyone who has noticed a potential impact on a household appliance or hot water system.”
Residents with discoloured water can run an outside tap closest to their water supply for 10–15 minutes. If it does not clear, call the council on 06 349 0001.

Water tankers available
Water tankers will be available until 7.00pm today, Thursday 10 September, near the Castlecliff Club, with access from Tennyson Street and Thatcher Street, and at the Surf Club on Rangiora Street.
Tomorrow, Friday, 11 September, a water tanker will be available near the Castlecliff Club from 9.30am to 7.00pm. Residents are asked to bring suitable containers.
