Whanganui District Council will hold an information evening for potential candidates for October elections on Thursday, 4 July.
The information evening will be held in the Council Chamber, 101 Guyton Street, from 6.00pm-7.00pm.
Council staff will give brief presentations and the Council’s Electoral Officer Noeline Moosman will be available to answer questions. Horizons Regional Council staff will also attend to provide information for those considering standing for the regional council.
This is the second of two information evenings, with the first held on Wednesday, 29 May. All are welcome at next Thursday’s event.
Whanganui District Council Senior Democracy Advisor Kate Barnes says local government has a huge impact on the community and building its future.
“We encourage all passionate Whanganui residents to think about running for the Council or the Rural Community Board.
“This information evening is a great opportunity to gain some insight into what being a local government politician involves. We’d love prospective candidates to come along so they can make a well-informed decision about whether to run in this year’s election.”
Local elections will be held on Saturday, 12 October with candidate nominations opening on Friday, 19 July. Nominations close at 12 noon on Friday, 16 August.
