Progress results for the 2025 Whanganui District Council elections have now been published here(PDF, 137KB)

This result is based upon the counting of approximately 85% of the returned votes. The progress result does not include some special votes and votes returned today – that are still in transit to the processing centre. The outcome of these elections may change once all votes have been counted.

At this stage, the following candidates are set to be elected.

Mayor

Whanganui Community Subdivision

Kai Iwi Subdivision (elected unopposed)

Kaitoke Community Subdivision (elected unopposed)

  • Charlie Anderson

At this stage, the results indicate Whanganui has voted to retain the Māori Ward. In the Māori Ward poll, the progress results are as follows:

  • I vote to keep the Māori Ward – 6,663 votes
  • I vote to remove the Māori Ward – 6,213 votes

The final declared results, including all special votes, are expected to be available on Thursday, 16 October 2025. They will be published in a public notice in the Whanganui Chronicle as well as on the Whanganui District Council website.
