Whanganui River levels are currently high at Pipiriki and it is expected the river will rise to approximately 7.5 m at Whanganui City Bridge by high tide this afternoon (around 3.45 pm). We can expect significant amounts of debris in the river and we’ve closed the following roads as they have become submerged or are close to it:
- Whanganui River Road at Oyster/Shellrock Bluff
- Kaiwhaiki Road at Horrocks Park
- Kauarapaoa Road at 1km from the southern end
- The road alongside the river and the arboretum road at Kowhai Park are also closed to be on the safe side. At this stage it’s not looking as though rising waters will breach into the park unless there is some significant change.
Horizons Regional Council is carefully monitoring the situation and we are keeping an eye on our local infrastructure. We’ll keep you updated on this page and you can also check out https://www.facebook.com/civildefencemanawatuwanganui
