Manuka Street private plan change to open for feedback

Whanganui District Council media release

A request for a private plan change for the former Castlecliff Bowling Club site on Manuka Street will go out for public feedback as part of the council’s planning process.

The request has been made to the council by the owners of the former Castlecliff bowling green site.

The property was sold into private ownership in when the Castlecliff Bowling Club merged with a nearby club to become the Gonville – Castlecliff Bowling Club.

The request seeks to change the zoning of the site from open space to general residential.

The council’s chief strategy officer, Sarah O’Hagan, says when a request like this is made it needs to go through a formal planning process under the Resource Management Act 1991.

“Our elected members have approved the request to go out for public feedback. This is an early step in the process and allows for feedback from our community.”

“Planning processes like this help the council consider how land is best used in the future,” O’Hagan says.

“If the private plan change were to proceed, it could allow for around ten residential sections to be developed on the site.”

Submissions for the Manuka Street Private Plan Change open later next week and close at 5.00pm on Monday, 15 June, via the Have Your Say section of the Whanganui District Council website.
