The Davis Central City Library and the Alexander Research and Heritage Library will be closed for stocktaking on Wednesday, 26 February 2014.
District Library Operations Manager Jeremy Barlow says the stocktake allows library staff to see which items need to be fixed, cleaned or replaced.
“We also find items which have been put in the wrong place and it gives us a chance to discover what’s missing. This is a huge operation, which only occurs every three years.
“Up to 100,000 items will be scanned at the Davis Central City Library alone. The Library’s collections are a considerable community asset and we pride ourselves on providing our stock in tip-top condition.
“On the day, library users will still have access to the Mobile Library, as well as the Gonville Café Library, where they can enjoy a coffee while they browse.”
The Mobile Library (the Library bus) will be outside the Davis Central City Library on February 26 and the Gonville Café Library in Abbot Street will be open from 9.00am to 5.00pm.
