Cr Philippa Baker-Hogan, Chair of the Community Safety Group, today said the group is confident in the processes around Stewart Murray Wilson’s release on parole.

“Our community can be confident that stringent plans and procedures are in place around the parole, as they were when Mr Wilson was previously released,” Cr Baker-Hogan said.

“It has been demonstrated that if Mr Wilson breaches the conditions of his parole, the relevant agencies will act quickly. However, if people do experience concerns as a result of his release on parole, we encourage them to contact support agencies.”

The Community Safety Group, brought together by the Wanganui District Council, includes representatives of the Department of Corrections (Community Probation and Prison Services), New Zealand Police, local residents, Wanganui District Council, Wanganui Rural Community Board and agencies involved in the care of those exposed to sexual offending. The group was established to work on a co-ordinated approach by key agencies, on behalf of the community, to deal with concerns about the release of Stewart Murray Wilson in the Wanganui District. It works within the Safer Whanganui framework.
