Whanganui Mayor to speak at Sarjeant on the Quay

Whanganui Mayor Hamish McDouall is responsible for selecting several works of art for the inaugural My Choice exhibition, an ongoing series that recently opened at the Sarjeant on the Quay.

Mayor McDouall says he came up with the idea of choosing works from the Sarjeant Gallery Te Whare o Rehua Whanganui collection when thinking of the things he loved about Whanganui.

“I wish I could have had a choice of one hundred, but I chose a small selection that I thought were fairly representative of the different kind of styles I like,” he says.

The Mayor’s selection is diverse – from a 1919 Italian painting of medieval towers, to an iconic Michael Illingworth piece to more contemporary works.

This is a free public event and all are welcome.
