International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, the General Assembly has declared the day as devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples”.
Peace Through Unity and the Whanganui branch of the United Nations Association of New Zealand invite all Whanganui residents to meet at the Handspan Sculpture, Pukenamu Queen’s Park, at 12 noon on Saturday, 21 September 2019 for sharing and reflection. This year’s theme, Climate Action for Peace, focuses on the importance of combating climate change as a way to protect and promote peace around the world.
