The government wants to simplify local government and has asked councils across New Zealand to develop proposals for how they could merge with others.
We're not at the stage of developing options yet – before we get to that stage, we want to hear from our community on what matters most.
The feedback we receive now will help guide our thinking as we work with key partners to develop options. Once options have been developed, we’ll be asking for your feedback on them.
The survey takes around five minutes to complete.

What we're asking
This survey explores the principles that will help shape future discussions.
We're interested in hearing:
- what matters most with local government changing
- whether different services and responsibilities are best managed locally, regionally or nationally
- what should be protected or strengthened for Whanganui in the future.
