The water and gas main on Tawa Street provides the water supply to the surrounding residents and also contributes to other Gonville areas. The current water and gas pipeline on Tawa Street (from Rata Street to Kings Avenue) has reached the end of its useful life and needs to be replaced to ensure continuity of water and gas supply for the Gonville area.
Six hundred metres of 100 mm PVC-M water main and 150mm, 80mm PE gas main will be installed along Tawa Street from Rata Street to Kings Avenue. The new gas and water main will be constructed in the same trench.
This work is being initiated by Whanganui District Council and GasNet. Downer will be the contractor.
Work will begin on Monday, 9 May 2022 and will be completed by Friday, 24 June 2022.
This project will benefit the Tawa Street and Gonville area in the following ways:
The construction work will begin at the intersection of Kings Avenue and Tawa Street. There will be a 30 km/h speed restriction on Tawa Street at the construction area. The road will remain as two lanes throughout the construction period with ‘stop and go’ one-lane control positioned at some intersections.
