It’s time to start thinking about the people in our community who deserve recognition for the voluntary work they do.
Volunteer Whanganui and Wanganui District Council will soon be inviting nominations for the 2014 Volunteer (Kaituao) Awards.
Mayor Annette Main said the awards are an opportunity to recognise the contribution of individuals as well as groups.
“Last year 25 individuals and 12 teams were nominated for the awards,” Mayor Main said.
“The stories about the work they do were inspiring for those who attended the awards ceremony and I know that there are many others in our community who also deserve recognition. I encourage individuals and organisations to start thinking about people they would like to acknowledge and thank through the awards this year.”
Sandra Rickey, Manager Volunteer Whanganui, said: “As volunteers work of their own free will, we aim to educate the public that whilst their work is unpaid, it is the incredible impact and difference that they make that improves our community. We promote their value through recognition events and awareness opportunities such as these.”
The award categories are Individual, Team and Youth Individual.
Nomination forms will be available from Volunteer Whanganui from May 1. Nomination information will be emailed or posted to organisations that are on Volunteer Whanganui’s database. Any other individuals or groups who would like to make nominations can collect forms from Volunteer Whanganui’s office in Community House (Room 106, 60 Ridgway Street) or email whanganuivolunteercentre@xtra.co.nz.
Nominations will close on May 30 and the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on June 19.
