Mayor Annette Main says it is an honour for our community to be included in Prince Harry's first visit to New Zealand.

“I know people will be keen to give Prince Harry a great welcome when he arrives at our Airport on Thursday morning but they should be aware that they'll only get a fleeting glimpse, as he won't be walking through the terminal or stopping to talk to people.

“The best opportunities for the public to see Prince Harry will be on his waka journey from Putiki to the Union Boat Club and during the walkabout at the War Memorial Centre forecourt.

“I'm sure our community will want to cheer him on while he's on the Whanganui River and we'll love to see as many people as possible lining the riverbank. We did it for the Eagles during the Rugby World Cup, we can do it again, even though the timing may not work for everyone.

“We're also expecting a great turnout at the War Memorial Centre forecourt where Prince Harry will meet and greet people after his meeting with our veterans.

“The waka journey and public walkabout will give people a great opportunity to take photos - but please respect the request that people not try to take selfies with the Prince.

“I am looking forward to his Royal Highness experiencing the genuine warmth of our community.”
