Totara Street Wastewater and Gasmain Upgrade
- Project typeWastewater
- Project value$294,343.03
- Contractor nameFulton Hogan Ltd
- Completion Date17 February 2026
The recent extension of Fitzherbert Avenue to Mosston Road has opened up a large area of land for future housing. At present, the Totara Street wastewater line is the only pipe servicing this area, and parts of it don’t have the capacity needed to support new development.
A section of the line outside Tawhero School has been identified as a key constraint. To ensure the network can handle future demand, 104 metres of the existing 150mm pipe will be upgraded to a larger 225mm line.
Why this work is needed
The existing wastewater infrastructure is no longer sufficient to support the growth planned for the Springvale area. Upgrading this section of the network will ensure it can safely and reliably service both current and future residents.
Benefits for the community
-
Supports new residential development in Springvale
-
Improves the reliability of the wastewater network
-
Brings infrastructure up to modern standards
-
Reduces the risk of pipe failures
-
Lowers long-term maintenance costs
Traffic and pedestrian access
Totara Street will remain open to two-way traffic during the works. Lane widths will be reduced near the site and a temporary 30km/h speed limit will be in place.
Footpaths will remain open, with clear signage provided at the start of the work area to guide pedestrians safely around the site.
