Whanganui District Council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan 2021–2027 is a guiding document that sets out our district’s approach to tackling waste efficiently and responsibly.

Developed in consultation with the community, mana whenua and local businesses, the plan focuses on several key areas:

  • introducing kerbside recycling and improving resource recovery services
  • growing education and outreach to reduce waste and support good recycling habits
  • minimising construction and demolition waste going to landfill
  • diverting more organic material from landfill.

Preparations are now underway to develop the next Waste Plan – and community input will play a central role in identifying priorities for the years ahead. As part of this process, we’ll also review progress made under the current Plan. We’ll share more information soon about how you can get involved.
