This morning, at 9.04am, Whanganui Mayor Andrew Tripe lifted the State of Local Emergency for Whanganui District following heavy rain in the upper catchment over the early hours of Sunday.
This policy outlines the licensing conditions the council’s District Licensing Committee (DLC) and the Alcohol Regulatory Licensing Authority (ARLA) should have regard to when they make decisions on licence applications. With the purpose of reducing alcohol-related harm in the Whanganui District, the policy creates a framework for granting alcohol licences, a requirement for a one-way door restriction, discretionary conditions and maximum trading hours for licensed premises.
This policy comes into effect on 12 January 2026.
