From tomorrow, Friday 3 April 2026, the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (sales on Anzac Day morning, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas Day) Amendment Act 2025 comes into force.
For Whanganui, this means that on-licensed premises such as taverns, function centres, theatres, and cinemas are now allowed to open and sell alcohol without providing meals.
These venues can operate to their normal trading hours and do not need to close on Anzac Day morning, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, or Christmas Day.
If you have any questions about the changes, please contact the alcohol licensing team on 06 349 0001
