Glasgow Street is on the mend

You may have driven along Glasgow Street in the last six months and noticed that the area of the street between Bell Street and Keith Street, just past the roundabout, has been cordoned off and the area around it designated as a 30km zone.
During the June 2015 flooding, the stormwater pipe under this section of the road was severely damaged and not able to be fixed immediately. Senior Stormwater Engineer Kritzo Venter says the damaged pipe caused a tomo (sink hole) in the road.
“When the damage first occurred we investigated the pipe to see what work needed to be done. We found that damage caused by the storm required the pipes to be excavated for repair. The pipe is five metres under the road and there was no quick fix available. We put the work out to tender and we are pleased to say Loaders Wanganui will be carrying out the work starting this coming Tuesday, January 26 and finishing on March 11.”
In the meantime, drivers are asked to be patience while a detour is in place between the Bell Street and Keith Street section of Glasgow Street.
