Know a budding young Whanganui creative interested in writing for the screen? ✨

Thanks to Creative Communities funding from Creative NZ and administered by Whanganui District Council, the Young Screenwriters Workshop program will debut in April 2026.

Anyone between ages 15-18 are eligible to apply. The program particularly encourages applications from rangatahi that the NZ Film Commission define as underrepresented: Māori, Pacific peoples, Asian communities, MELAA (Middle Eastern, Latin American and African), women, gender diverse, LGBTQIA+ communities, people with a disability.

The program is a two-day workshop designed to equip young writers with the tools to confidently write a short film script, with the assistance of keynote guest speakers from Aotearoa’s screen industry.
