Gordon Park Scenic Reserve

This 14.5-hectare Department of Conservation reserve is situated on the corner of Kaimatira Road and No 3 Line. The reserve is a sample of a lowland forest type which was once common in the Whanganui area, and features species such as mataī, tōtara , tītoki , tawa, kōwhai and kahikatea.

The reserve also features an interesting array of birds including fantail, tui, bellbird, kererū, grey warblers, shining cuckoo, pūkeko, fernbird, bittern and grey duck.

Gordon Park Scene Reserve is a great introduction to bushwalking for young children, as it has a flat 15-minute loop track which is buggy and wheelchair accessible. There is a car park and picnic table at the start of the track.
