Whanganui District Council adopted the Local Alcohol Policy 2025 on 12 August 2025 and it will come into force on 12 January 2026.
This policy outlines the conditions the council’s District Licensing Committee and the Alcohol Regulatory Licensing Authority should have regard to when they make decisions on alcohol licence applications.
It also sets maximum trading hours for alcohol sales, and one-way door restrictions for on-licences.
This policy replaces the Local Alcohol Policy 2019. It is available from the council’s website or from Customer Services at 101 Guyton Street, Whanganui
