Whanganui District Council Chief Executive Kym Fell is pleased to announce five new senior appointments at the Council.

The appointments have been made following changes to the organisational structure which Mr Fell made earlier this month.

The new appointments are: General Manager Finance - Mike Fermor, General Manager Property - Leighton Toy, General Manager Operations - Bryan Nicholson, Manager Special Projects - Rowan McGregor and Manager Libraries/Archives - Pete Gray. All appointees will begin in their new positions on July 4.

Mr Fell, who joined the Council in January 2016, says the Council needed to embark on change in order to lift performance by way of improved results, delivery of outcomes and greater efficiencies.

“The reason behind the restructure is to ensure that employees are empowered to deliver ‘exceptional’ rather than ‘expected’ results and to improve productivity within Council.

“The change in management structure reduces the bureaucracy and requires staff to be more accountable. As an organisation we need to work smarter and become more flexible to the needs of our community.

“I congratulate the successfully appointed candidates and look forward to working with them. I would also like to acknowledge the senior managers who have moved on from the organisation to explore other opportunities and I thank them for their contribution to our district.”

The Council is currently recruiting for the role of General Manager - People and Culture and will shortly advertise the role of Kaiwhakahaere.
