Whanganui water is sweet as - beware of scammersWe want to assure everyone that our water supply is not contaminated in any way and is perfectly safe to drink.

Whanganui District Council Chief Executive Kym Fell has had reports of residents being phoned by people purporting to be from our Council, stating that the water in their area is contaminated. The caller will then organise an appointment to meet the resident the next day and try to sell them a water filter.

“These people are not from, nor represent, the Council in any way,” Mr Fell says.

“We consider this behaviour despicable, especially as they are targeting the elderly and people who live alone. We have reported them to the appropriate authority.

“Safe drinking water is given the highest priority by our Council. Online monitoring occurs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with multiple samples taken from across the district and fully analysed at an accredited laboratory.

“Our water meets the highest quality of the New Zealand Drinking Water Standards Aa.”
