Cr Laws’ resignation received

Mayor Annette Main today said she has received Cr Michael Laws’ resignation from the Wanganui District Council.

The resignation is effective from midnight on 30 April 2014.

“Cr Laws has confirmed that he and his family have permanently relocated to the South Island and he is unable to fulfil his council duties,” Mayor Main said.

The Local Electoral Act 2001 requires that a by-election be held to fill the vacancy. The by-election process cannot begin until after the resignation takes effect.
