Changes have been made to parking on Taupo Quay and its surrounding streets to reflect the different ways the area is used and to make it more business-friendly.

Four new parking meters with a 120 minute time limit have been installed between Market Place and Stellar Restaurant and Bar to replace spaces with unrestricted time limits.

Parking in Taupo Quay and Drews Avenue will be free during the weekend.

Parking Services Team Leader Jo Meiklejohn says the changes have been made to reflect the different uses of Taupo Quay and surrounding streets.

“Our community uses the Taupo Quay area for a variety of reasons, such as access to businesses, to participate in recreational activities on or near the river or for studying at UCOL. This area of town is also used for different activities during the weekdays and on the weekend so we want to make sure parking is suitable for all users.

We also hope the changes will be helpful to businesses, as restricted time limits on parking should mean more customers can access the street.”

A pay and display car park has also been created between the Wanganui Produce Centre and Renata's Art and Framing. This provides for all day parking at 50c an hour.  Leased car parking is also available for businesses at 7 Taupo Quay (next to the Tram Shed).

Please contact the Council on 349 0001 for more information about these parking spaces.
