Portrait of Councillor Charlie Anderson

Raised and educated in Whanganui, Charlie started flying at 16 and ended up flying helicopters for 35 years.

As part of a non-existent air ambulance service, Charlie was awarded the Queen's Service Medal for many lifesaving and emergency flights carried out prior to and including Whanganui's current ambulance service.

After retiring from active flying in 2004, he was a rural real estate agent until 2008, and then managed Air Whanganui’s air ambulance and charter company for eight years.

Now semi-retired, Charlie enjoys farming his 8 hectare lifestyle block with wife Kathy. He is a director of the New Zealand International Commercial Pilot academy, an advisory on the board of Mid-West Helicopters, a Whanganui District Health Board member and a third-term district councillor.

Charlie and his family love Whanganui and would not live anywhere else.
