Iconic Kowhai Park, located on Anzac Parade in Whanganui East, is one of Whanganui’s premier parks. It has a large children’s playground which has delighted generations of children.
Statues of fairytale characters and animals are dotted all over the park – you can slide down a brontosaurus, swing on an octopus, see-saw with a snake or picnic in a pumpkin. A disability swing is available for people with limited movement. There’s a view of the river as you zoom along on the flying fox. The Tot Town Railway, operational on weekends, takes you through a tunnel and past moa statues.
A skate park beside the Dublin Street Bridge provides young people with a challenge.
The beautiful woodland riverbank setting has plenty of shade for picnicking and can be enjoyed by the whole family.
There are barbecues, drinking fountains and toilets on-site.
