The principal focus of Environmental Health is to protect and promote a safe environment, through education and compliance with legislation to ensure a high standard of public health is maintained.
There are some 279 premises which are licensed and inspected to ensure minimum standards of health are maintained. Premises include food premises, hairdressing salons, camping grounds and hotels.Nuisance complaints are also investigated. These include litter dumping, smoky fires, abandoned vehicles, noise control, food complaints and bylaw enforcement.Response to abandoned vehicles and litter will be within 48 hours, while urgent nuisance complaints will be responded to within 30 minutes and within 24 hours for non-urgent complaints.
Environmental Health staff are available at the Council's front counter and by telephone from 8.00am to 5.00pm on weekdays.
After-hours services are available through the Council’s after-hours telephone service; however, response is determined by the urgency of the problem.
