Proposed Economic Development Strategy

Whanganui District Council is consulting on its proposed Economic Development Strategy.

The strategy sets a 10-year vision to be vibrant, prosperous and rich with opportunities based on three key aspirations – to Retain, Grow and Attract.

Five "game-changing" priorities are identified in the strategy as drivers for the district's development potential through to 2028 and beyond:

  • A transport and freight gateway
  • Training and development
  • Agricultural development
  • Tourism (with Whanganui River as a central theme)
  • Food and innovation

You can also email your thoughts to policysubmissions@whanganui.govt.nz or drop a submission form into the Council's temporary customer services area at 179 St Hill Street.

Copies of the proposed strategy and submission form are also available from Whanganui & Partners, also at 179 St Hill Street, the Davis Central City Library and Gonville Café Library.

Submissions close at 5.00pm on Friday, 1 March 2019.
