Whanganui Venues & Events
In 2017 three Council venues – the Whanganui War Memorial Centre, Cooks Gardens Events Centre and the Royal Wanganui Opera House – merged under one management umbrella and Whanganui Venues & Events was created. Whanganui Venues & Events is a one-stop-shop for all booking enquiries and has a team of dedicated event co-ordinators to help with all your venue hire needs. War Memorial Centre
The Whanganui War Memorial Centre, which opened in 1960, is among the top 1000 architectural 'modernistic' buildings in the world and the top 50 in the Southern Hemisphere. It is both beautiful and practical and has served the community well ever since. The centre is a living memorial to the 375 men and women from Whanganui who lost their lives in World War 11.
The centre includes a large main hall, Concert Chamber, Pioneer (meeting) Room and kitchen facilities. The centre's opening hours are 10.00am–4.00pm Monday to Friday.

Royal Wanganui Opera House
The Royal Wanganui Opera House is New Zealand's last Victorian theatre, elegantly standing at over 115 years old. The theatre seats 830 patrons and is the perfect venue for many local, national and international events.
The venue is equipped with audio visual requirements and our Technical Lead and team can assist with setup and technical advice, ensuring your event is a success.
Pre-show and intermission refreshments are provided in the upper bar area, along with ice cream sellers to sweeten your theatre experience. The venue is an ideal setting for your next performance, graduation, school production, seminar, wedding or meeting.
A Box Office is conveniently located to the left of the theatre for ease of ticket sales. It is open Monday to Friday, 10.00am-4.00pm.

Leased entirely to community organisations, these buildings may be available for use/hire. They are: Arts Society building (Cooks Gardens, Cook Street entrance), Castlecliff Town Hall, Duncan Pavilion, Ward Observatory, Repertory Theatre and Musicians Club (former Savage Club). User fees are charged for these venues.

There are rural halls at Brunswick, Fordell, Kai Iwi, Mangamahu, Maxwell, Rapanui-Mowhanau and Okoia. These halls are owned by individual Hall Committees under the Rural Community Halls Trust (Upokongaro Hall is leased and not available for hire, while Kaitoke Hall is occupied and also not available for hire).
