Whanganui District Council has adopted an infringement offence regime for litter infringements under the Litter Act 1979.
The Council intends to increase the infringement fee (fine) for litter infringement offences. The proposal is as follows:
• The maximum fine for littering in the Whanganui District will be $400.00
The following offence descriptor and fine will apply in the Whanganui District:
||Descriptor for offence
||Depositing litter in a public place or on private land without the occupier’s consent
Section 13 of the Litter Act requires the Council to give at least 14 days’ public notice of its intention to change the infringement fees.
The Council will make a decision in respect of this proposal at its first normal meeting after this year’s election in October 2019 (likely to be in November 2019).
