Mill Road Industrial Zone Upgrade
- Project typeStormwater Upgrade
- Contractor nameID Loaders
- Completion Date31 March 2020
Whanganui District Council is developing stormwater infrastructure in the 120 hectare Mill Road Industrial Zone to transform Whanganui’s capacity to accommodate industrial and manufacturing businesses.
The stormwater expansion is being carried out in response to increased business interest in Whanganui and is expected to deliver economic benefits to the area.
The project involves installing large concrete stormwater pipes – 1200mm, 1350mm and 1600mm – under Mill Road and Mosston Road.
Mill Road upgrade progress
The installation of the stormwater pipeline is progressing well, with 90% of the work completed. Contractors have reached the intersection of Mill Road and Manuka Street and work is continuing in a northerly direction, with a planned completion date of November 2019.
Stormwater connections are currently being made to properties to allow developers to subdivide for industrial or commercial purposes.
The final road reconstruction work for the section between Rakau Rd and Manuka St will begin in November 2019 and be completed by March 2020.
While work is underway speed restrictions and a one-way traffic system controlled by lights are in place.
Once the stormwater upgrades are complete Mill Road will be sealed, providing access to the new industrial development and a more direct route to and from Castlecliff.
Mosston Road upgrade progress
Stormwater upgrades have been completed in Mosston Road and road resealing is underway. The Mosston Road upgrades will support the Mill Road Industrial Zone by providing extra drainage capacity in the area.
Further planned works
A new water main running from Mill Road to Clarkson Ave (via Mosston Road) is in the process of being installed and is expected to be completed in May 2020. This is currently out for tender.
